Hardwood Floors Vs. Carpeting

Which is Better For Your Multi-Family Project?

Carpeting Or Hardwood Floors?

Carpeting Or Hardwood Floors?

As St. Petersburg multi-family builders, we know that when designing your multi-family project one of the most important things to consider is the type of flooring you want installed. Today, two of the most common types of flooring are hardwood floors and carpeting. To assist you in making a decision between the two, we’ve compiled a pros and cons list.

Carpeting

Carpeting is a popular flooring option because it is soft and cozy, and can add a warm appeal to your multi-family project. With carpeting, there are hundreds of different styles to choose from. From patterned or plain to plush or berber, there’s a style and design for everyone.

Pros of Carpeting

  • Easy to Install- Carpeting is very easy to install. It typically only takes a few days, which in turn makes installation fees less expensive than for hardwood floors
  • Less Costly- Not only is the installation for carpeting less expensive, but the carpet itself is as well.
  • More Comfortable- Carpeting is soft and warm under your feet, giving a luxurious feeling. Another benefit of carpeting is that it acts as an insulator, stopping heat or cold from rising up through the floor, something especially important for buildings with more than one story.

Cons of Carpeting

  • Harder to Clean- Unlike hardwood floors, carpeting can be much more difficult to clean. Stains are almost impossible to remove, and odors can stay in the carpet, making it a poor choice for buildings with children or pets.
  • Increase of Allergies- Carpeting is good at collecting and trapping dust and pet hair, which can make for an uncomfortable living space for those with allergies.

Hardwood Floors

Today, hardwood flooring is one of the most popular flooring materials. It’s both timeless and elegant, and extremely sought-after. Hardwood flooring is available in several different varieties, i.e., pine, poplar, oak, and maple.

Pros of Hardwood Floors

  • Easy to Clean- Unlike carpeting, hardwood flooring is very easy to clean. It’s a durable material, and simply require a damp cloth or mild cleanser to wipe stains right up.
  • Very Durable- Hardwood floors are extremely durable. As multi-family builders in St. Petersburg, we know that hardwood floors can last many years if properly taken care of. If any scratches occur, they can be removed very easily with sanding or refinishing.

Cons of Hardwood Floors

  • More Expensive- Hardwood floors cost much more to install than carpeting, make it quite the investment in your multi-family home.
  • More Noisy- Unlike carpet, which is soft and acts as a sound barrier, hardwood floors can be a noisy option.
