Developing An Unmatched Reputation
Forty Years Building Custom Homes on Florida’s Gulf Coast
Peregrine Construction Group has been building custom homes in Tampa Bay since 1981. Forty-plus years working a single regional market — St. Petersburg, Tampa, Clearwater, Belleair, and the surrounding Gulf coast communities — under the same Florida CGC license, with the same design-build delivery model, and a long-term subcontractor network that’s been in place across decades.
Our Custom Homes division builds ground-up luxury single-family residences for individual owner-clients. We work on client-owned land, on developable sites we help clients identify, and on infill teardown-and-rebuild lots in established neighborhoods. Project sizes range from infill homes in the 3,000–5,000 square-foot range to estate-scale waterfront builds well above that. Architectural styles span coastal contemporary, Florida vernacular, traditional, transitional, modern, Mediterranean revival, and modern coastal. We work to your design vision — we don’t impose a house style.
Peregrine will be your right hand from start to finish.
The ability to provide our clients with the homes of their dreams is something we could never take for granted. Custom homes allow for unique features, and details big and small that spec homes and many renovations simply cannot. The ability to fully customize your space lets you, the homeowner, bring your vision into reality. Peregrine custom homes are of a quality that is unmatched by cookie-cutter houses, and allow for you to grow old in a space that is all your own.
One Team, One Contract, From Site Analysis to Final Handoff
We’re a design-build general contractor. That means one firm — Peregrine — manages both your home’s architectural design and its construction under a single contract. Our architects, designers, project manager, engineers, and field staff all work under the same Peregrine team from initial site analysis through 60-day post-occupancy follow-up.
The alternative — design-bid-build — splits the architect and the contractor across two contracts. The seams between them are where most custom home projects slip schedule and budget. Architects designing without builder input under-price constructability. Builders bidding against drawings they didn’t help shape recover costs through change orders. Adversarial communication shows up the moment construction starts.
Design-build collapses the seam. Cost feasibility is integrated into design from day one. Constructability issues get caught at the drawing stage, not on site. The schedule and budget signed at the Building Agreement are the schedule and budget delivered at handoff. You have a single accountable team — and a dedicated project manager who is your primary point of contact from contract signing through the keys.
Building on Your Land — Or Land We Help You Find
Building on land you already own is one of the most common project types we take on. The team assesses the site for feasibility — setbacks, soil, drainage, easements, code, HOA, and any historic overlay where one applies — and designs a home around what’s actually buildable. Unique land challenges surface early rather than mid-construction.
If you don’t yet have a lot, we provide pre-acquisition site analysis. We’ve worked across enough of the Tampa Bay region — Pinellas, Hillsborough, and selectively into Sarasota and Manatee — to give a working-level read on what a candidate lot will and won’t support before you commit capital.
Once the site is settled, the design phase typically runs 4 to 8 months depending on complexity and decision speed. You see preliminary site plans and initial design concepts within the first two weeks of the Design Agreement signing. Construction generally runs 12 to 18 months for a Peregrine custom home. The Building Agreement includes a full project schedule, and we provide weekly written updates with photos and decisions-needed items throughout construction.
A Foundation Built to Last
Peregrine’s years of experience building custom homes on clients’ existing plots of land has enriched their team with the knowledge and confidence to offer free on-site evaluations, answer any questions you may have, and ensure that parameters of your lot meet the expectations and requirements of your new custom home. Each project presents it’s own set of challenges, and building on your land is certainly no exception. That’s why our experts will fully assess the land to determine what is feasible, what needs to be reworked, and what we can build together from the ground up.
What’s Included, and Why That Matters
A Peregrine custom home project includes everything from site feasibility analysis through final handoff under a single design-build contract:
- Site feasibility analysis (setbacks, soil, drainage, code, HOA review)
- Architectural design
- Interior design coordination
- Structural and MEP engineering
- Permitting
- All trades, materials, and labor through final certificate of occupancy
- Dedicated project manager
- Weekly written client updates during construction
- Punch-list walkthrough and full warranty documentation at handoff
- 60-day post-occupancy follow-up visit
Every line of cost is sourced and traceable. We deliver a full line-itemed estimate sourced from real-time subcontractor and supplier pricing — not from rough cost-per-square-foot heuristics. You see and approve every line before construction begins. When you ask “what’s in the framing line?” you get a real answer.
In 2023, the Tampa Bay Business Journal ranked Peregrine the #1 Largest Custom Homebuilder in Tampa Bay in their annual “Book of Lists.” That ranking is by completed volume, not marketing budget.
You set the standards,
we exceed them.
We specialize in design build projects because they provide a level of comfortability to clients that is unmatched any other way. As the client, you will deal with a single source professional entity responsible for facilitating your home design and construction based on architectural, lifestyle, and financial criteria provided by you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Peregrine build on land I already own?
Yes — building on client-owned land is one of the most common project types we take on. Our team assesses the site for feasibility, setbacks, soil, drainage, and any code or HOA constraints, then designs a home around what's actually buildable. If your land has unique challenges, we'll surface them early rather than partway through construction.
What's the typical price range for a Peregrine custom home?
Our custom home projects vary widely based on land, scope, finishes, and size. Most projects land in the luxury single-family range typical for Tampa Bay coastal markets. We provide a transparent, line-itemed estimate before any Building Agreement is signed, so you see exactly what is allocated to design, materials, labor, and contingency.
How long does it take to design and build a custom home?
Design typically takes 4–8 months depending on complexity and decision speed. Construction generally runs 12–18 months for a Peregrine custom home. We provide a project schedule with the Building Agreement and update it weekly during construction.
Can Peregrine handle the design AND construction?
Yes — Peregrine is a design-build firm. We coordinate architecture, interior design, engineering, and construction under one team. You have a single point of accountability rather than juggling separate architect, designer, and contractor contracts.
What architectural styles does Peregrine work in?
We've delivered everything from coastal contemporary and Florida vernacular to traditional, transitional, and modern. Our portfolio spans waterfront, lakefront, infill urban, and large-lot estate projects across St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay, and the Gulf Coast.
